My live is busy as usual. I don't post as often as I want to, but I'm still reading a lot.
This is a reply to something ludditerobot posted.
My new favourite site to look for fan fiction is Twisting the Hellmouth. It is centered on Buffy and Angel fan fiction. There are a lot of crossovers, most stories actually, and although some fan fiction on other popular films, TV series and books - when the author tolerates fan fiction.
I'm still a fan of I need a Parrot, the first Buffy fanfiction site I visited and where I posted my first fan fiction stories.
Now I prefer Twisting the Hellmouth, because there are always new stories and new chapters to find. It is easy to navigate, i.e. you can click on a direct link to the newest chapter of a favourite story or even set stories on "follow", so you will be informed when a new chapter of a "followed" story is posted. The site is well travelled and a lot of readers leave reviews, depending on the story.
I have placed one story there, "Xander in Smallville", with seven chapters so far. For that I have received 35 reviews. What really makes my giddy about Twisting the Hellmouth is the little counter that shows you how many people have clicked on the story (I don't presume everyone read it.). By now the story has gathered over 14,700 hits. Which is nothing big; the most favourite stories ring in by over 200,000 hits. It possible helps if the story has a lot of chapters. But to me it's always a kick to see that little counter go up.
There are a lot of authors, so a lot of stories are abandoned or only irregularly updated. Still, there are some great stories to find. I recommend going to my author's profile there and looking at my recommendations.

I haven't posted for quite a while. I'm still following the posts on my friends list and getting a lot of reading done.
Today I wrote a drabble, my first try. Something dark, twisted, with a spin at the end. Mature readers only.
Title: 25 Strokes Author: Karl Stahl Rating: Adult Pairings/Characters: Buffy and… that would be telling Time: Post Chosen Summary: Buffy gets some relief in an unexpected way Warnings: dark, SM-theme Disclaimer: Josh Whedon, Mutant Enemy and some others own Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's time to talk about me. I have reread this post more than once, but most of it is still feels like my thoughts at the moment, so statements may change or at least explained better in the future.
Collector
When the second season of "Buffy the Vampire Slaver" (BtVS) had aired in Germany, I happened on an original-language VHS-tape of the second half of Season Three. I bought it on a whim, watched it over the weekend, and was hooked. The "old" hunter-and-gatherer-drive set in, I started collecting. Up to Season Six on VHS-Tape. After the first Angel-Season came out on DVD, I switched to DVD. So I watched every episode, either on tape, DVD, or on TV. My collection is complete now, even if I haven't opened the BtVS Season Seven DVDs yet.
Fanfiction
Some years ago I stumbled onto fanfiction, while looking for information about "Tenchi Muyo". "Tenchi Muyo" is an anime about a sixteen-year-old boy in Japan, who has a flock of alien women/girls living with him, who are all more or less in love with him. Over a decade earlier I had read and even written a few (very) short stories myself for a few self-published (i.e. copied) science fiction fanzines and so-called egozines, way before the internet became widespread and easily accessible. I am a very curios person and a fast reader, so I found and read a lot of Tenchi Muyo fanfiction. There are some very good authors on The Tenchi Muyo Fan Fiction Archive: Jeff Morris, Jeff Harris and Harvey Bautista, just to name a few. "Fur Love of Tenchi" is the funniest kinky story I've read so far. Today the quality has dropped, very few new stories there are worth my time now.
So I knew about amateur fiction and fanfiction.
Buffy-Fanfiction
A few years ago – I'm bad at remembering dates - I stumbled over Buffy-Fanfiction on www.fanfiction.net. I was lucky to read a few good stories first, so I decided to read all the stories in alphabetical order and keep an eye on the new posts. I didn't go through with that, because I happened on a new story by Lizbeth Marcs. That way I learned about I Need A Parrot, still my favorite site, even if it has been down for a time recently.
A new site to explore and a door to other websites and LiveJournal. I lurked there as an anonymouse for close to two years before I got my own LJ.
Favorite Authors (professional)
Steven R. Donaldson – the best there is (IMO like all following lists) Robin Hobb (close second, may be on par) Andrew Vacchs (hard-boiled crime stories, great writer, great person) Christopher Stasheff (The Warlock-Series, great humor)
BtVS-Fanfic writers I like (now)
liz_marcs (a pro, I'd pay to read her original stuff)
nwhepcat (everything she's written so far is very good, and I enjoy reading her stories very much)
m_mcgregor (great writer)
nemo_gravis (has a lot of new ideas – at least for me – and executes them well) Aeneas (His Raison d’etre is a Spike-Faith-fic that actually works. Great Spike first person perspective in the first half. And his slayer Cara is one of my favorite original characters (OC))
There are more, but I limit myself to the first five that came to mind.
Nevertheless, special mention for Drake, d_tepes. ;-)
That should be enough for now. More to come. Someday...

I Need A Parrot
My favorite Xander fanfiction site is back. It took me sometime to realize this, because the old link to the index I had doesn't work any more. This link should work:

On Writing
Maybe two weeks ago I discovered Trudi Canavan's "Black Magicians Guild Trilogy" on Monday and finished the third book on Thursday. There's a very good essay about how to write there:

I haven't posted in quite some time. So I stole this meme from nemo_gravis and fiddled a bit with it.
I tried to hide this behind a lj-cut, but it didn't work for a long time. And the preview sucked. But I'm done now.

Paying the Price
for nemo_gravis
Disclaimer: All things Buffy belong to Joss Whedon and M.E. Spoilers: Buffy Season Six, "Wrecked" Category: Drabble Rating: PG 13, I guess
Author’s Note: This is for nemo_gravis, who asked for "Amy, Rack, paying the price". Yes, I know a drabble are usual 100 words. But nemo_gravis deserved something a little longer.
***
Author's Note 2: A later episode showed that Rack is not above taking money. I think, most of his customers pay with money, magical herbs or magical trinkets. That would make for a boring drabble. But sometimes he uses some of one customer's magic, which he also seems to accept as payment. He refers to this practice as 'taking a tour'.

Cause I asked ludditerobot:
The first 10 people to comment on this post get to request a drabble on a subject/character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal.
I don't write slash. And it should be characters from "Buffy" and/or "Angel". Anything else is fair game.
Hit me.

For quite some time I thought about what I wanted to write. A lot of things. How to put all of them into one entry? Finally I found the answer, staring right back at me. I don't have to put everything into one entry! Here is the first, short one. More will follow.
( Luke Perry )
The next part will be about languages and collecting.
